About the artist

Too Dance……oil on canvas board 22x30

David Clancy brings a background in theatre, music, and dance along with decades of experience in finance and leadership to his work as an artist.

This unique combination can be seen in his paintings as they explore feelings about the world we live in, work and our daily lives.

Born and raised in New York City, David studied Theatre Arts and Music Composition for Dance at Marymount Manhattan College.

During the late 1970’s and early ‘80’s he explored various combinations of Visual and Performing Arts to create “Living Works”, such as An Evening of Isolation, a living installation work incorporating Art, Music and Silent Performers. Several of his pieces were favorably reviewed in NY papers including The New York Times.

David took a hiatus from the Art World and began a career in the world of Corporate Banking and Finance which eventually led to a path working in Leadership and Organizational Transformation. He and his family lived in Australia for several years as David travelled the globe, teaching and helping to create organizations where people are happy to work.

David holds a Ph.D. in Management and is co-author of Roses and Rust, a book on leadership practices and change management.

As he returned to the U.S., making his home in Northern California with his family, (which now includes five grandchildren), David renewed his passion for painting. His work has been shown at several Juried and Members’ Exhibitions in Sebastopol and Santa Rosa. Most recently he was an exhibitor at the first annual Sonoma County Veterans Art Day, presented by Life on Earth Art.

David has been active in Guitars 4 Vets, a national non-profit that provides ten lessons to vets, at the end of which they are presented with a free guitar. A veteran himself, David helped start the local chapter in Sonoma County. He has graduated a number of vets and loves seeing them receive their nice, free guitars!

The painting below is of David’s brother, Paul, and the treasured Martin guitar that belonged to their grandfather. The painting hangs in Clancy’s Guitar School in Austin, Texas.
